Warwick Castle
An outside view of Warwick Castle. In 960, the daughter of Alfred the Great ordered the building of an earthen rampart which would protect the small hill top settlement of Warwick. William the Conquerer built the first motte & bailey fort in 1068. The 1st Earl of Warwick, Henry de Beaumont, was appointed in 1088.
